PLAYER CONTRACTS & REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM
All Players in the MLSA must sign a Uniform Player's Contract (UPC) which will be provided to all Clubs by the League. Major points of interest in the Player's Contract are:
Contract Term
All Player Contracts will be for a period not to exceed one year. There will be no multi-year or guaranteed contracts in the MLSA.
Salary Cap
There is a salary range for a Player’s minimum and maximum base salary each year. The Club Salary Cap is the total of the six minimum and the ten maximum salary slots plus the maximum Performance Bonuses.
Performance Bonuses
Performance Bonuses in the MLSA are optional. Performance Bonuses may be added to any Player’s Contract, subject to MLSA approval, for the type of Performance Bonuses and the amounts. Clubs must be within the prescribed amounts set forth by the MLSA. These bonuses count toward the salary cap regardless of whether or not they are actually awarded.
Meal Money
Players will receive $40.00 per day meal money while on the road.
Salary Arbitration
There will be NO Salary Arbitration in the MLSA.
Trades and Assignments
All Trades and Assignments must be approved by the Player during the first 3 years of the MLSA.
Free Agency
After 3 FULL seasons of service in the MLSA a Player becomes a RESTRICTED Free Agent. A Player may sign an offer sheet with another Club by February 1. Current Club then has ten days to match any offer. If a Club loses a Player to Free Agency they must be compensated by the Club that signs said Player. The compensation will be 2.5 times the Player’s base salary with the new Club.
Reason’s for a Player’s Release
1) Breach of Contract 2) Player Misconduct 3) Medical Reasons (re: failing physical; non-softball related injuries; serious illness) 4) Deteriorating Skills 5) Failure to Maintain Playing Shape
Revenue Sharing
A complete revenue sharing package is included in the Uniform Player’s Contract. All Players will receive a share of the revenue sources outlined below. The Players’ combined share is usually 20% unless indicated otherwise. Each Player’s individual share for Gate Receipts is based on a percentage determined by full years of service in the MLSA. First year Player's Percentage is .625%
1. Gate Receipts: 100% to Home Club; 10% to Players
2. Licensed Team Products: 10% (net) to MLSA; 90% (net) to Club
